Also known as clear braces, porcelain ceramic braces are an excellent alternative to metal braces, especially for patients with severe malocclusion.
Porcelain ceramic braces consist of the same three components that make up traditional metal braces.
Porcelain ceramic braces work as effectively as metal braces since they work the same way. This is excellent news for patients who aren’t good candidates for Invisalign®. They can still get the high-quality treatment they need – but with better aesthetics!
Treatment plan timelines vary from patient to patient, depending on the complexity of their case. However, porcelain ceramic braces can take a bit longer than metal braces.
While the porcelain ceramic brackets are durable, they’re not as strong as metal. If your teeth move too rapidly, it can put pressure on the brackets and cause them to crack or break. Your orthodontist will make sure the teeth move at a slower rate to prevent this.

It really depends on your needs. Both options offer an invisibility factor that makes them attractive.
If you worry that you might lose your clear aligners, you might decide that porcelain ceramic braces are the better option. And if you worry that once you take your aligners out, you’ll forget to put them back in, then it might be a good idea to go with fixed braces.
If aesthetics is your main priority, Invisalign® will probably be the best fit for your needs. Since you can remove the clear aligners, public events and speaking engagements are easier with Invisalign®. In fact, many people don’t even remove their aligners for these types of events because they’re used to speaking with them, and they’re virtually invisible.
It’s also important to note that if you have severe malocclusion, Invisalign® likely won’t be an option.
Many insurance companies pay for these braces just as they would for traditional metal braces. Of course, you’ll need to talk with your insurance company to see if there are any limitations, as many have age limits for orthodontic coverage.
